Black and Lace in Menton

This was the first time I had ever been to the sweet French costal city Menton. Famous for it’s historical church at the top of a winding staircase and lemon orchards. We parked the car and then walked through the town. Lots of little tourist boutiques and restaurants. I think I had the BEST frozen lemonade drink of my entire life there too. Squeezed fresh, sour and sweet, this was the perfect drink for a hot summer day. Right in the center of town is the cutest carousel that the kids rode on about a million times. This is one of the things I love most about European cities that we lack here in the US. Those little town squares and piazzas. We stopped for a lunch of fresh seafood pasta and then headed towards the lovely church that sits on the top of the town, nestled in the tiny apartments of the residential homes.  Climbing to the top was ambitious for the little ones so my mom stayed behind while my dad and I made the vertical hike to the top. The views were breathtaking, facing the sea…After finally completing our decline we were ready for a light bite and stopped for dinner at the restaurants right on the boardwalk. What’s so cool about observing the French and beach goers is how fun and carefree they are at the beach. Families in groves, including grandparents and babies and exentded family members of all shapes and sizes were having a ball. Typically when I’ve been to the beach in other locations people seem so self conscious of the way the look, etc. It was really refreshing to note how liberated these people were and reminded me to let go of my inhibitions and just enjoy the natural elements for what they are.
